Email Setup

Once you have been connected to Ocean Broadband, call us on 1300 4 OCEAN (1300 462 326) to create an email account. Your email address will be username@oceanbroadband.net, with "username" being the username we have created for you, e.g. username: homer_j, email address: homer_j@oceanbroadband.net.

Web Mail

To manage your email account you may use the Webmail service that is provided on our homepage, www.oceanbroadband.net. Enter your username and password into the fields provided and click on the Login button. Your Webmail webpage will load and you can start accessing your email account.

Outlook Express and Microsoft Outlook 2000

To set up an account with Outlook Express, please follow the instructions listed below:

  1. Once you have opened Outlook Express, go to Tools at the top of the window, then select Accounts.
  2. An Internet Accounts window will open. Select the Mail tab at the top of the window.
  3. Click on the Add button on the right hand side of the window, then select the Mail option.
  4. An Internet Connection Wizard window will open and will ask you for your display name. This will generally be your name, or the name by which you want to be recognised by when you send an email. Enter your display name then click Next.
  5. It will then ask for your email address, which will be similar to username@oceanbroadband.net; "username" being the username we have created for you. e.g. username: support, email address: support@oceanbroadband.net . Enter your email address then click Next.
  6. Your incoming mail server should be set to POP3, if not, set it to POP3 by clicking on the downward arrow on the right hand side and select POP3 from the list of options. Where it says Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP or HTTP) server: enter: mail.oceanbroadband.net. Then for Outgoing mail (SMTP) server: enter: mail.oceanbroadband.net also. Then click Next.
  7. Your username should automatically be entered in the Account Name field, please change this to reflect your whole email address, ie: support@oceanbroadband.net . Then enter your password in the Password field. Make sure the Remember Password box it ticked by clicking on the empty box, if it isn't ticked already, and please ensure Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) is not ticked. Then click Next.
  8. Finally, click on Finish and your account has been created.

Microsoft Outlook (2002 and 2003)

To set up an account with Microsoft Office Outlook, please follow the instructions listed below:

  1. Once you have opened Microsoft Office Outlook, go to Tools at the top of the window, then select E-mail Accounts.
  2. An E-mail Accounts window will open. Select the View or change existing e-mail accounts by clicking on the circle next to the option. Then click Next.
  3. Your current email accounts will be listed, if any. Please click on the Add button to the right hand side of the window.
  4. Select POP3 from the list of options by clicking on the circle option provided. Then click Next.
  5. Under User Information: it has the field Your Name:, enter your display name, or the name you wish to be recognised as.
  6. Then where it has E-mail Address: enter your email address.
  7. Under Server Information it has the field Incoming mail server (POP3):, enter mail.oceanbroadband.net.
  8. Then where it has Outgoing mail server (SMTP): enter mail.oceanbroadband.net.
  9. Under Logon Information y our username should automatically be entered in the User Name field:, please change this to reflect your whole email address.
  10. Then enter your password in the Password field.
  11. Make sure Remember Password is ticked, and Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) is not ticked.
  12. Click on the Test Account Settings button and a window will appear listing tasks to be completed to make sure you have set up your email account correctly. If all the tasks come up Completed with a green tick you may close that window and then click on Next to take you back to the original E-mail Accounts window.
  13. Then click on Finish and your account will have been created successfully.

Microsoft Outlook 2007

To set up an account with Microsoft Office Outlook, please follow the instructions listed below:

  1. Once you have opened Microsoft Office Outlook, go to Tools at the top of the window, then select Account Settings.
  2. An  Account Settings window will open. Your current email accounts will be listed, if any. Please click on the  New button to the left hand side of the window.
  3. If you are required to Choose E-mail Service. Select  Microsoft Exchange,POP, IMAP, or HTTP from the list of options by clicking on the circle option provided. Then click Next.
  4. You will then be presented with the Auto Account Setup, check the box Maunally configure server settings or additional server types at the bottom.Then click Next.
  5. You will then be presented with Choose E-mail Service. Select  Internet Email from the list of options by clicking on the circle option provided. Then click Next.
  6. Under User Information: it has the field Your Name:, enter your display name, or the name you wish to be recognised as.
  7. Then where it has E-mail Address: enter your email address.
  8. Under Server Information select POP3 from the drop down menu next to Account Type
  9. Next to Incoming mail server (POP3):, enter mail.oceanbroadband.net.
  10. Then where it has Outgoing mail server (SMTP): enter mail.oceanbroadband.net.
  11. Under Logon Information your username should automatically be entered in the User Name field:, please change this to reflect your whole email address.
  12. Then enter your password in the Password field.
  13. Make sure Remember Password is ticked, and Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) is not ticked.
  14. Click on the Test Account Settings button and a window will appear listing tasks to be completed to make sure you have set up your email account correctly. If all the tasks come up Completed with a green tick you may close that window and then click on Next to take you back to the original E-mail Accounts window.
  15. Then click on Finish and your account will have been created successfully.

Apple Mail

To set up an account for an Apple Mail, please follow the instructions listed below:

  1. To begin, open Mail.
  2. Click the Mail menu at the top of the window. Select Preferences from the list of options.
  3. An Accounts window will appear listing your current mail accounts on Mail, if any.
  4. Click on the Add Account button.
  5. An Account Information window will appear. Next to Account Type, select POP.
  6. In the Description field, you can enter your email address, or a name that best labels your account for you.
  7. In the Email Address field, enter your email address.
  8. In the Full Name field, enter your name.
  9. In the Incoming Mail Server field, enter: mail.oceanbroadband.net.
  10. In the User Name field, enter your username. This is the title before the @ symbol on your email address.
  11. In the Password field, enter your password. This would have been decided upon when you setup your account with us.
  12. Once you have entered the above information, click on the Options button. An SMTP Server Options window will appear.
  13. In the Outgoing Mail Server field, enter: mail.oceanbroadband.net. Make sure that the Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) box is left blank. Also check that Authentication is set to None, and make sure the User Name and Password fields are blank. Then click on the OK button.
  14. You will return to the Account Information window. Click the OK button.
  15. Your email account will have been created successfully.

Troubleshooting

  1. If you cannot receive email, first verify your password by logging into Webmail on this page. Enter your username and password then click "log in".

    If you can log in, you have the correct username and password, continue to step 2 to check the configuration of your email client.

    If you cannot log in, we will need to reset your password. Call us on 1300 4 OCEAN (1300 462 326). If we cannot answer your call, please leave a message with your username and a new password (at least six characters including one capital letter and one number).

    Your new password will be configured within 24 hours. You will need to update your email client with the new password.

  2. If you cannot send email please check that authentication is off:
    • In Microsoft Outlook 2007:
      • Go to Tools and select "Account Settings".
      • Select your Ocean Broadband account and click on the "Change" button at the top.
      • Confirm that the "User Name" includes your whole email address (including the @oceanbroadband.net).
      • Please make sure that you do not have "Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)" ticked.
      • Then click on the "More Settings" button and select the "Outgoing Server" tab. Make sure "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" is not selected.
      • Close the windows that are open and try your email again.
    • In Microsoft Outlook 2002 and 2003:
      • Go to Tools, select "Email Accounts" and then click on "Next".
      • Select your Ocean Broadband account and click on the "Change" button on the right hand side.
      • Confirm that the "User Name" includes your whole email address (including the @oceanbroadband.net).
      • Please make sure that you do not have "Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)" ticked.
      • Then click on "More Settings" and select the "Outgoing Server" tab. Make sure "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" is not selected.
      • Close the windows that are open and try your email again.
    • In Outlook Express and Microsoft Outlook 2000:
      • Go to Tools, select "Accounts" and then click on the "Mail" tab in the "Internet Accounts" window.
      • Select the Ocean Broadband account and click on the "Properties" button to the right and select the "Servers" tab.
      • Make sure the "Log on using secure Password Authentication" option is not selected.
      • Make sure the "My outgoing mail server requires authentication" option is not selected.
      • Confirm that the "Account Name" includes your whole email address (including the @oceanbroadband.net).
      • Click on OK and close the remaining windows.
    • If this does not help with the problem, please try the step 3.

  3. If you still have trouble sending email turn on SMTP authentication:
    • In Microsoft Outlook 2007:
      • Go to Tools and select "Account Settings".
      • Select your Ocean Broadband account and click on the "Change" button at the top.
      • Please make sure that you do not have "Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)" ticked.
      • Then click on "More Settings" and select the "Outgoing Server" tab. Turn on "My outgoing server(SMTP) requires authentication". Set the option to "Use same settings as my incoming mail server".
      • Close the windows that are open and try your email again.
    • In Microsoft Outlook 2002 and 2003:
      • Go to Tools, select Email Accounts and then click on 'Next'.
      • Select your Ocean Broadband account and click on the Change button on the right hand side.
      • Please make sure that you do not have "Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)" ticked.
      • Then click on "More Settings" and select the "Outgoing Server" tab. Turn on "My outgoing server(SMTP) requires authentication". Set the option to "Use same settings as my incoming mail server".
      • Close the windows that are open and try your email again.
    • In Outlook Express and Microsoft Outlook 2000:
      • Go to Tools, select Accounts and then click on the Mail tab in the Internet Accounts window.
      • Select the Ocean Broadband account and click on the Properties window and select the Servers tab.
      • Make sure the "Log on using secure Password Authentication" option is not selected.
      • Turn on the option 'My outgoing mail server requires authentication' (tick the checkbox).
      • Click on "Settings" and make sure it is set to "use the same as my incoming mail server.
      • Click on OK and close the remaining windows.

  4. If these steps have not resolved your problem, please either:
    • Use an alternate email account to send a message to support@oceanbroadband.net. We will contact you regarding how to solve the problem.
